Recently one of my Junior DBA came up with a question to me relating to the size of the Backups.
The question was, How will the size of the backup be more than the database size?
We all know that the size of the backup will be less than or equal to the size of the database and no chance of increasing.
So what could be wrong in this case?
There is nothing wrong, the particular backup file he/she is looking at is having more than one backup set.
This means that the Backup file had 11 backup sets and the command was executed without specifying the INIT option.
If INIT option is mentioned then the backups will be overwritten and the file size will be actual backup size.
